Managing Common Areas Amidst COVID-19

As COVID-19 continues to disrupt virtually every facet of modern life, social distancing efforts remain one of the best weapons against infection. Many people are working remotely, spending more time at home, and generally adapting their daily lives to prevent getting sick. With more people killing time at home, you may notice an uptick in the usage of common areas and amenities.

If you're hoping to manage your common areas safely amidst social distancing efforts, consider how to evolve your COVID-19 response plan. While initial policies might have meant closing down common areas and amenities, it may be time to open such spaces up with restrictions. Keep tabs on your local orders and align your policies accordingly.

Whatever rules you decide to employ, make your policies clear to everyone. Share updates on whether or not your pool or gym will reopen, and post physical signage in those spots, too. By keeping the lines of communication open and transparent, it's easier to get everyone on the same page.

It's a challenging time for everyone, and the decisions you make in the wake of COVID-19 can have far-reaching ramifications. Weigh each choice carefully and you're sure to do what's best for your tenants and community.
